The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas outlines the innocence and ignorance being explored through how effectively the composer of chosen film conveyed the concept of the cultural experiences.
The imagined story of Bruno and Shmuel sheds light on the brutality, senselessness and devastating consequences of war from an unusual point of view. It discusses the social and political context’s throughout the film over the stereotypes we have of how people were during World War II especially the Germans. This will allow us to relate to the film more greatly and explore the groups, individuals and/or places in a more knowledgeable understanding. Essentially, the composer, Mark Herman, explores the effectiveness that The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas gives an authentic experience within the culture and context being implied, which draws the audience to recognise the two different worlds of unconditional environments.
Part of this film makes a clear understanding towards most people’s reaction of ignorant which takes full extent of what was happening during the time. Trouble by conflict lingers over Bruno hence the composer shapes his human characteristics in a sense that strength lies in similarities not in differences.
Taking everything into account regarding the effectiveness of how the composer of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas conveyed the concept of the cultural experiences. It allows us to reflect on how the children and people experience a sense of cultural difference by an image with such negative connotations.
The fundamental values towards the knowledge and skill within the film gives an aspect that lines may divide us but hope will unite us, outlining the various aspects associated within the films convey of cultural experiences by relationships, connections, techniques and understandings.
It allows us to take into meaning of how its visual representation can be identified as an aspect of culture and an element of context incorporated throughout the film. The contrast of good and evil has the power to engage us, overwhelm us and change us to pinpoint both views throughout the film.
The film creates a plotline, being written from the perspective of an eight year old it introduces us to the subject, and as viewers, we simultaneously sympathize with and admire the children, who, although unaware of the horrors occurring being the fence, understands the fundamental value of human life.
“ The way we approached it is that all the violence takes place off-screen.
We in the audience don’t see it, but we do see the look on Bruno’s face.
That’s what tells the story. “
It perceives the enormity of the horror between Bruno and Shmuel. With so much already known about the Holocaust, this unusual perspective must have seemed like a fresh take on history, but in the end it comes across as misconceived, despite the film’s strengths.
Overall, the film’s final half hour is enough to merit a strong warning to those young viewers, and adults. As previously mentioned before, The Boy in the Striped pyjamas display two different worlds of unconditional environments but it outlines the innocence and ignore the director wanted to portray to the audience.
NOTE: Those who do choose to see the film might also want to watch some of the acclaimed Holocaust documentaries of recent years (try Shoah) to gain a greater sense of what the Jewish people underwent during that time.
